Play with “Jack Barau”, the famous Petrel pirate !

Synopsis

After a few months at seas, the famous pirate Jack Barau has come back on his native island : Petrels Island.

Like every year, his vessel moored in Port Royal Bourbon awaits young petrels. They are eager to meet up with him since he’ll guide them through their maiden flight across the ocean.

But upon Jack’s arrival, the young petrels are held captive by ruthless beasts.

The fearsome bunch of rat pirates and cat soldiers, equipped with their incandescent lanterns, keep watch on the island.

Beware of the fledgeling for they must not fall into their grasp!

Why is this wondrous island so perilous? Would it be a scheme devised by his brother in arms, Black Bourbon?

The game “Jack Barau” : an educational tool both innovative and fun!

The LIFE+ Pétrels committee put in place this video game so as to raise awareness on the stakes petrels are facing. The idea behind the game was to broach this serious and urging thematic in a fun and new way for the world of environmental protection.

The players will understand through the plot and the graphic design the impact rats, cats, and light pollution have on the petrels’ populations.

By means of personification, the player will immerse himself in the petrel’s world. By fighting off their threats, he will comprehend the petrels’ conservation stakes better and thus get more involved.

 

Target audience : Secondary-school/junior high school students

Equipment: Smartphones, tablets

Goal of the game :

  • Make the 2 endemic species of petrels emblematic of La Réunion
  • Strengthen the sense of belonging regarding this natural and cultural heirloom
  • Build a sense of sympathy for the petrels
  • Raise awareness on the 3 main threats they face : rats, cats and light pollution
